Jose Luis Andrade, “Ché”, was raised in Mexico City and Mexicali, and now resides in the city of San Jose. When he was in Mexico City the mural composition of Diego Rivera, David Siquieros, and Jose Orozco, and the use of color from the paintings of Rufino Tamayo inspired him. He started at an art academy in Mexico City at the age of seven. At the age of eight he moved to Mexicali and started to attend La Casa de la Cultura art academy until the age of thirteen. Without continuing in any type of academic education, he continued to paint and draw throughout his teenage years. Once in college he began to take painting, printmaking, and drawing classes again, but now with a professional focus. Jose Luis Andrade’s techniques and style differs from his native Mexican culture, his art correlates with that of the great muralist in the tradition of social commentary. Andrade makes art that resonates at all levels of aesthetic and political understanding.
