James Gasowski was born in San Francisco in 1954. In 1972 he joined the military and while in the service, he decided to become an artist.
In 1976 he started his education at San Francisco State University, and then attended the Academy of Arts. Given an opportunity to move to Europe, James left school and moved to Kiel, Germany in 1980, where he began to paint and study art on his own. After a profound and deeply spiritual experience he started to create a personal symbolic art.
Over the course of the next 10 years, James traveled back and forth from Europe to California and then to New York developing and showing his art. In 1996 he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and then to Truth or Consequences, N.M. in 2008.
James Gasowski’s art has grown from the spiritual symbolism of his early work through geometrical abstraction, to the calligraphic mark-making of the present work, where his focus is on line and color.
James’s artwork are in private and public collections in the United States and Europe. His work was selected for the New Mexico State Capitol Collection in Santa Fe, and he has shown in the Center for Contemporary Art and Winterowd Fine Arts in Santa Fe, Gallery Zipp, Phil Space Gallery, Decorazon Gallery in Dallas, the Affordable Art Fair in NY, Miami Art Fair Basel, and RedDot Art Fair in London.
