Cindy Aquino’s solo exhibition focuses on the autonomy and determination of the human spirit. She personally takes us within the access of her surrounding environment: deep inside the psyche of the LGBT Manila folk, as well as her surrounding punk family and community. The combination of these two cultures create a surprising harmony, as urbanites in the city find solace in one’s own self-empowerment as brothers and sisters united in a determined and familial setting of solidarity.
The exhibition is a satellite program of Bindlestiff Studio’s Bakla Show 3, in time for San Francisco Pride.
About the Artist:
Cindy Aquino (b. 1986) is a photographer based in Manila, Philippines. Her photographic work, “Bond” is a recipient of the PRIDE PHOTO AWARD in Oude Kerk, Amsterdam as the Grand Prize in 2013 and 2nd Prize for the “Extremely Normal” category last 23rd of August 2013 in CNN. Cindy is also an active member of Restore Outdoor Club (Rebuilding Environmental and Social Consciousness through Outdoor and Recreational Enrichment) promoting ethical responsibility to protect and manage the environment, based in Manila, Philippines.

“Bridging the Gap” is the first collaboration between contemporary artists Paolo Mejia and actress/filmmaker/director Esperanza Catubig who are both passionate about supporting the Bantay Bata (Child Watch) program, promoting Filipino-American/descent artists, and encouraging dialogue among the different generations. Our special guest, Oscar Penaranda, an award winning dedicated scholar and author who will be reading excerpts from his books, “Seasons by the Bay” and “Full Deck“.
This event is a fundraiser and has limited seating sold at a sliding scale of $20-$30 through Brown Paper Tickets or at the day of the event. Advance ticket reservations made before May 25th receive a limited edition gift bag. Go to:

The Paolo Mejia Art Gallery and Design Studio is seeking emerging / established artists for our group art show this June through August entitled “cut & paste”. We are seeking collage work of traditional and contemporary process. Artists are encouraged to submit strong pieces that best fits the title of the show, and best represent who you are and what you do as an artist.
Submission guidelines:
+ Submit up to 10 strong pieces for consideration. (Images should not be more than 2MB.)
+ Any medium is allowed.
+ Submit a separate .doc file for the list of art being submitted in. (Please indicate by numbering the info that corresponds to the image file.)
